Thank you so much for your response — I agree with your comment 100%, but completely skimmed over that particular design choice when I was originally looking for examples of microcopy (d’oh!). You are very diplomatic, but I will just say that I generally hate center alignment for the reasons you mentioned. I urge my students to avoid it as a rule, and at very least think carefully and intentionally about it’s use if they insist on using it in their document designs.
